This week we have the pleasure of welcoming Jeffrey Bell who will be giving a talk on “Making Sense of Capital: Towards a Deleuzo-Humean Political Theory”.

As usual, do not hesitate to join us for this exciting discussion.

The event will take place in room 1G05 (Dalhousie) from 4 to 6 pm, on Wednesday the 13th of November.

In this talk I first set forth what I take to be the key aspects of Deleuze’s metaphysics of problems, developing here the notion of problematic field. To better situate the Deleuzian concept of a problematic field, I will compare it with Pierre Bourdieu’s arguments concerning the relationship between social fields and habitus. This will then set the stage for sketching a Deleuzian theory of primitive accumulation and expand upon some of the suggestive remarks Deleuze makes in his essays, “Mediatiors” and “Postscript on Control Societies.”

Jeffrey Bell is a professor of Philosophy in Southeastern Louisiana University.
