The Division of Philosophy, Art & Critical Thought of the EGS ( European Graduate School ) is very pleased to announce that the “Leading Thinkers” series will continue with a course on Karl Marx led by Professor Frank Ruda from the Scottish Centre for Continental Philosophy.
Dates: March 6 – May 8, 2022 at 6:30 pm Paris time.
Karl Marx. This is the name of a thinker whose reception has been vacillating and oscillating between the extremes. In the last century, he was potentially the most reviled and the most idolized, the most unread and the most cited, the most vandalized and the most fetishized, the most defended and the most criticized. This leading thinkers course on Karl Marx’s work will closely work through some of his most intricate texts and demonstrate how his thought can still speak to us in the 21st century.
The cost for participation in this seminar is $900. Students who are returning to the “Leading Thinkers” series will receive a discount of $150, as will all students who join us for a subsequent course in this series in 2022. If a student is unable to attend a course session a recording will be made available. The course will last for 10 weeks and run for approximately 2 hours per online meeting.
The course is not credit-bearing (it does not form part of the EGS degree programs that are accredited by the MFHEA), but students who attend the course are eligible for a Certificate that documents their participation.
The “Leading Thinkers” initiative has proven to be tremendously popular for EGS students and a growing international community. The courses maintain the exceptional level of the EGS experience while shifting the modality of instruction by offering an extended engagement with the work of a single author. EGS students value this complement to their program, and guest participants have the opportunity of joining our intellectual society.
